What we have achieved .…

  • Re-erection in 1979 of the timber-framed house in Church Lane which until 1830 had been part of the Butcher Row in the middle of the High Street - now Ledbury's folk museum, run by our volunteers.
  • Restoration in 1987 of the disused Congregational chapel off Church Lane, now known as the Burgage Hall - for hire and use as a meeting place for the people of Ledbury and managed by our volunteers.
  • Placement of plaques at 24 of the old alleyways which separated the Burgage plots from the High Street and Homend. A booklet on these and other historic features has been published - on sale at the museum.
  • "Welcome to Ledbury" signs on the approach roads; cast iron litter bins in the town; benches and gates to the Walled Garden; the oak notice board by St Katherine's Hall; repairs to St Katherine's Barn; flagpoles by the War Memorial; and restoration of the Scout Hut - just a few of the projects which we have funded
  • Provision of grants-in-aid for many notable conservation projects, such as St Michael's church, the murals in the 'painted room' of the Council House and the preservation of brickwork to the station approach.
  • Publication of a comprehensive photographic record of Ledbury 2000 to commemorate the new millennium - for the County Records Office, Ledbury Library and the Society - covering festivals, events, education, businesses, services, sport, building and local scenery
  • Contributions to the community bus, hospital improvements and the repair of local churches.
  • Publication of a revised edition of “Ledbury - A Medieval Borough” and other books by Joe Hillaby, and other local historians.

What we are doing now...

  • We offer opinions to the Town and County Councils on planning applications, local plans and traffic matters; and we attend planning meetings and local inquiries.
  • We offer prizes to local schools for pupils’ projects on topics of interest in the locality - to encourage the interest of younger people
  • We earn income from folk museum sales and from letting the Burgage Hall - these enterprises being operated by our volunteers
  • We provide knowledgeable guides to conduct visiting groups around the historic sites of the town
  • We hold regular meetings and social occasions; arrange displays and local visits; and have an annual programme of talks and discussions.
  • We publish a regular Newsletter for all our Members.

What of the future…

  • Encouragement of public interest and involvement in the continued protection of our local heritage
  • Continuation of our ongoing projects, providing services to the community
  • Support to projects that will enrich the heritage of Ledbury and the surrounding district - proposals include support to the restoration of the St Katherine’s complex and the Hereford & Gloucester canal
  • Publication of a Ledbury Heritage Trail map for residents and visitors
